January Meeting: Dynatherm boilers and Carlin Burners

Thursday's meeting wasn't as well attended as I hoped it would be, but for those who made the effort to be there it was an enjoyable and informative meeting about two products that are making a strong comeback into the HVAC market.

Dynatherm boilers have been around a long time, but they almost became extinct only a few short years ago. Through the enterprnerial efforts of its new owner, it is making a strong comeback into the market. These boilers are unbelievably efficient and almost impossible to kill. To boot, they are made in the good old USA. To see the manufactring area of these boilers is an experience in itself and it is well worth the investment of time to pay a visit to the headquarters on Cherry Road.

Many thanks to Kerry Moyer (pictured above) for hosting this event and for being so hospitable to all who attended.

Also, for our benefit last night, we were able to spend time with two reps from Carlin burner. Jeff Mace and Bruce Graham were two terrific speakers who represented their company well , but also spoke with enthusiam and humor about burner technology. You always remember things better if the information is accompanied with a humorous anicdote and I will remember a lot about last night's presentation.

We were able to fire one of their new gas power burners which really helped with the cool conditions in the building.

We recieve one new application for membership last night. Welcome to Brian Thomas who has applied for membership. We are looking forward to your contribution to the local chapter.

Feruary's meeting will be on Thursday, Feb. 22, 6PM at the "doghouse" at Moravian College. We are going to have a speaker addressing the topic of mold remediation. This is an issue that is becoming bigger and meaner as people are looking for ways to increase indoor comfort. I am sure that the information will be of great benefit to all of us. Try to schedule time to be there.

Now, if anyone would like to contribute articles to this blogsite just leave a comment and I will add you to the list of contributing writers. Hope to see you all at the February meeting.

Happy New Year 2007

Now that all the festivities for the new year have ended, we can all look forward to a new year of challenges and opportunites. The LVRSES chapter is ready to host some events for chapter members and guests that I am looking forward to in a big way.

We have already started on Manual 2 of the self study course that will prepare us for the CM exam. We've been meeting on the first and third Wendsday of the month at the Bethlehem Public Library. We spend and hour to an hour and one half reviewing the material from the manual. By end of January we should be through Chapter 16. This is a good group because if keeps you accountable to continue studying and moving through the chapters. Let's face it, how many times do we buy a book or manual with all good interntions of working our way through it only to find that we get distracted by work and family committments, before you know it the book is collecting dust on some shelf -more wasted money and even worse we can get discouraged from our goal of improving our knowledge. The self study group meets to review the material and encourages its members to continue to read and study. I know it works because last year all three members of the group- Ron Lobb, Tom Donmoyer, and Nelson Long, sucessfully passed the first year exam.

On Thursday January 25 at 6PM we will be meeting at the Dynatherm headquarters in Cooperburg/Quakertown to once again enjoy a seminar on the Dynatherm boilers. We were there last year and it was a terrific evening of fun and education. Bring along your warm jacket though because when we go out into the production area it will be unheated. Last year there was also a representative from Carlin burners, but I am not sure if that will be the case for this year. We would encourage all members of our chapter to plan to attend this worthwhile meeting. Stop for something to eat on the way down, because we won't provide any food for that meeting.

We are lining up some great educational seminars for the following months, so be sure to check in with the blog site from time to time and while your on the site take some time to click on the adds. The more clicks that we get the more advertising dollars that will come our way. I'm still waiting for the first check from google, but once we hit $100.00 they will send me a check that I will gladly donate to the chapter.Feel free to comment and let me know if you would like to be included as a contributing writer to this blog site. No doubt you'd like to hear from some different voices.
