Many thanks to Keith Roe of Air Care and Restoration Co. for the excellent presentation that he made to our chapter on the topic of indoor air quality and mold remediation.
It was well received by our members and I look forward to hearing from Keith at some future meeting.
Actually last night was one of our more successful meetings of the year. Even though we got "kicked out" of the "doghouse" the accommodations in the HUB were actually nicer. Several members commented that they would enjoy meeting there all the time. It would be nice, but there's no guarantee that this will happen.
It's eye opening to hear from an expert like Mr. Roe in the area of indoor air quality. He certainly got me thinking about a lot of things that I need to pay closer attention to. For example, from now on I will make more of an effort at PPE when doing coil maintenance. A lot of time in the HVAC industry we loose sight of how dangerous routine things can become.
I learned some new things about filters and UV lighting last evening that I haven't heard. Proper coil cleaning and maintenance is not just fill in work, it's really essential to ensure the health and safety of the building's occupants. Also hearing from an expert in the field of mold remediation gives me some clear direction about how to better handle those situations.
Isn't that what RSES is all about? "Better service through Knowledge" isn't just a glib statement, it is actually the core reason we exist as an organization. Last night's meeting only reaffirms this idea in my thinking. Enough!
At our short business meeting last night, we decided that next month we will accept nominations for chapter officers. We are looking at May for our election month. In you are interested in serving as on officer or in nominating someone for a position, come the the March meeting. Our by-laws state that 20% of the membership constitutes a quorum so 6 people can carry the day. All officers will be elected for a 3 yr. term.
Also, last night we welcomed Mr.Brian Thomas into the chapter and I got to meet another new member-Mr. Bob Hoffert. Welcome to both of you!
We also recognized three members for longevity with RSES. Mr. Carl DeHart, Mr. Roy Becker and Mr. Wayne Thomas whose combined longevity as RSES members is 75 years. Congratulations to all of you!
Now for my last rambling. I would encourage you to attend the EKA seminar in York, Pa. The seminar runs from March 22-24 and the offerings are just fantastic. To top it off it only costs $15.00 (that right $15.00) to attend Friday and Saturday. Where can you get a deal like that? Take some time and improve your knowledge by attending and get to meet some new people from other chapters. I'm going to e-mail and snail mail the schedule to all of our members.
